The theatre production Stepmother Home My Mother The Stolen Child is a mindchild of an  actress and dancer Wicki Kalaitzi, based on the authentic childhood history of her mother Lenka who has fallen victim to the deportation of Greek children to central and eastern Europe during the Greek Civil War. Through this documentary and artistic project the daughter will tell a story about searching for a home and growing roots in a new homeland.

The production fits into a wider artistic and social project “Stepmother Motherland” developed by theatre maker Joanna Lewicka to explore themes of origin, uprooting and (non) belonging in the contexts of contemporary history and of the modern (un)conscious “nomadism”.

The project seeks to overcome the common negative perceptions associated with migration, cosmopolitanism, “homelessness”.

Through intimate personal stories of witnesses of the History, it poses questions such as: what exactly is home and what does it mean to belong?
