Franz Dittrich studied sculpture and stage design at the HfBK in Hamburg. During his studies he was accepted into the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes. From 2013 to 2018 he served as the Stage Design Assistant at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, where he also created his own stage designs. He has worked in partnerships with Karin Beier, Claudia Bauer, Arpad Schilling, Ulrich Rasche among others. He was a resident artist at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Staatsschauspiel Dresden, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Residenztheater Münchner, Oper Stuttgart, Schauspiel Bonn, Staatstheater Darmstadt und Wiesbaden, dem Schauspielhaus in Kiel and other institutions.
We have met as students and have frequently collaborated at the early stage of my career, most notably on Racine’s Andromache. Years later we have reunited to work together on Urfaust and Krankheit der Jugend at the Volkstheater Rostock.
