MitOst Festival – Kleist Festtage

Three directors representing Poland, Germany and Russia joined forces for an experiment.

In the first phase, three separate homogenous teams developed three performative projects and presented them in Frankfurt (Oder), the birthplace of the poet Heinrich von Kleist and the seat of the Theatre Festival KLEISTFESTTAGE 2017 and MitOst Festival.

As soon as the applause ceased and the spectators left the venue, the artists went back to work: in newly assembled, multinational teams. The second phase of research and rehearsals went on for another week, culminating in a fresh series of performances.

The biography and work of a poet who hasn’t really felt at home anywhere has served as the texture of a cross-border encounter in the border city of Frankfurt, as the friction between the culturally determined, different approaches to interpretation and production aesthetics was harnessed in the creative process.
